Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said Friday that the wideout should be able to participate in non-contact organized team activities after suffering a torn rotator cuff last season. Decker had surgery after the Jets placed him on injured reserve in October.
“I anticipate him being ready to start the season,” Maccagnan said regarding the 29-year-old pass catcher.
The veteran turns the big 3-0 on March 15, and has two years remaining on a five-year, $36.25 million deal he signed with Gang Green in 2014.
Watson, who led the Tigers to a College Football Playoff National Championship, is expected to be an early first-round pick, and Trubisky will get selected in the first round as well. Kizer has the size, speed, and arm talent to thrive in the NFL, but he might be a Day 2 selection.
Those are the top three in this quarterback draft class, but you should keep your eye on other signal callers like Tennessee’s Joshua Dobbs and Colorado’s Sefo Liufau.
None of the quarterbacks participated in the bench press or three-cone drill, but on Saturday most of them went through with the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump, three-cone drill, and 20-yard shuttle. They will also complete a series of three-step, five-step, and seven-step drop backs and throw to receivers.
Texas A&M’s Trevor Knight posted the best quarterback numbers in nearly every drill and was the only one in the group who ran the 60-yard shuttle.
Watson and Trubisky both performed well and impressed in the throwing session.
“We do reserve a portion of our carryover room just for that and so we can minimize the number of (unrestricted free agents) that we have. We’ve got a large number this year and it’s going to be a challenge for us. We’ll be proactive with some of the young players that will be coming up in the next year or two.”
Kirkpatrick is ranked No. 41 on NFL.com’s Top 101 Free Agents and is the No. 5 cornerback on the list. It shouldn’t be long before the NFL world finds out if Kirkpatrick will be playing for a new team in 2017.
